TRAUMA COUNSELLING: for individuals and groups
As a professional life coach and a Traumatic Incident Reduction facilitator, with years of experience in the trauma unit at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital, I am adept in providing expert trauma counselling to individuals and groups. This experience has enhanced my passion for working with and helping people through traumatic experiences. My counselling sessions are available to clients in Durbanville, as well as in the rest of Cape Town’s surrounds.
My approach is very involved, yet rapid. The focus of my style of trauma counselling is on how you can help yourself to move forward. The technique I use for this is called Traumatic Incident Reduction, which was developed by Dr Frank Gerbode. Once the Traumatic Incident Reduction sessions are completed, I use coaching as a tool to help my clients figure out how to implement the insight and wisdom they have gained. This entire process is called Post Traumatic Stress Growth, and it is a way to take the hurt or anger you are experiencing and turn it into power.
If you have recently started experiencing nightmares, flashbacks, sleeplessness or random bursts of extreme anger, after going through something traumatic, it is possible that you are suffering from PTSD. Any of the following experiences can be dealt with during a session:
- Crime Incidents
- Chronic or Terminal Illness Diagnosis
- (Childhood) Sexual abuse / Rape survivors
- Dealing with Divorce
- Affairs: help for the victim and perpetrator
My group counselling sessions are usually needed when a team of employees has been exposed to crime and/or a traumatic incident at work. My expertise lies in trauma debriefing for all employees and in helping them to process the loss or event that occurred.
I have completed trauma debriefing and extensive training sessions at various large corporate companies. These include Rovos Rail, Hylton Ross Exclusive Touring, Boltfast and Freshmark, Brackenfell.
Dealing with traumatic experiences is always better done sooner rather than later. If you would like to talk to someone in a professional, yet comfortable, environment contact me to arrange a session.
